The success of character meet & greets

Multiple Schemes

Events & Experiences

OBJECTIVES

We are regularly tasked with providing clients with family events that will drive and grow the centre’s footfall whilst using budget as efficiently and effectively as possible. The cost-of-living crisis has highlighted the need to provide customers with free events.

METHOD

We have hosted a range of character meet & greets at several destinations. These events were provided to families for free, where they had the opportunity to meet and have a photo with their favourite TV idols.

With Paddington author, Michael Bond, having grown up in Reading, Paddington seemed the right fit to celebrate World Book Day at Broad Street Mall, Reading. Paddington also made an appearance at Victoria Place, Woking to tie in with their toy-themed Christmas campaign.

Both The Darwin in Shrewsbury and Victoria Place in Woking invited CBeebies favourites Bluey and Bingo to their centre as well.

OUTCOME

The character meet & greets proved incredibly successful at all destinations, providing a simple and cost-effective way for the schemes to drive high volumes of focused footfall. In addition, stores situated in close proximity to the events also reported on the positive impact on sales.

Both The Entertainer stores in Shrewsbury and Woking reported excellent footfall and sales at its stores on the day. At Woking, their sales increased by 7% compared to the previous Saturday and an impressive £700 worth of Bluey stock was sold in Shrewsbury.

All the schemes received incredible social engagement and reach too. We soon achieved higher than our target on Broad Street Mall’s social media, having received 221 engagements compared to our target of 50.  Shrewsbury’s web traffic driven by social media content was its highest ever. Woking’s event page reached 38.1k with a combined post reach on Facebook of 65,293.
