OBJECTIVE

With an increasing focus on our ecological impact on the planet we were inspired to use the centre’s position within the community to shine a light on a variety of environmental issues and easy steps to take over the festive period to enjoy a more eco-friendly Christmas.

METHOD

We kicked of the season’s festivities with eco-lantern making workshops where Children upcycled glass jars to create beautiful lanterns to parade through the centre at the Christmas Lights switch on event.

The main event itself included the appearance of an incredibly life-like animatronic polar bear as well as a the chance to pick up a ‘sustainable leaflet’ – a leaflet produced on recycled paper with eco-inks  that contained tips on how to have a more sustainable Christmas. Santa was also on hand to hand wooden Christmas tree decorations as well as mini Christmas trees that children were encouraged to plant for future years.

Other activity held included two live ice sculpting events to raise awareness of the melting ice caps as well as an eco gift wrapping service where customers could have their gifts wrapped in eco-friendly materials.

OUTCOME

The event provided us with strong cut-through in PR and social media terms a well as generating positive sales for stores at Woking Shopping, despite challenging commercial times. The success of the campaign has led to the client expanding the theme right across its 2020 marketing strategy.
